Giffords poses with her bike outside a Tucson coffee shop in October 2010.

More than six months after Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head, she is back on a bicycle.

According to a report from the Arizona Republic, Giffords “rode a bicycle with support wheels through the hospital hallways.”

Giffords, an avid cyclist and member of the Congressional Bike Caucus, spent the evening before the shooting with a friend riding their bicycles around Tucson.

  1. All right, let’s get to the important question: When can Gabby come out and ride with us? (C’mon, Gabby, you *know* you want to ride with us!)

Inquiring Tucson Veloheads want to know…

  2. Ditto on what Martha and Saimin said.  I want to see her back to enjoying life to it’s fullest again (riding a bike) asap.

BTW Martha, the Tuesday night bike ride went right by your place this week.  Did you hear all the comotion about 9:00?

  3. That’s awesome! We should definitely have some kind of giant welcome home thing for her when she comes back to Tucson. Who rides a bike in the hospital? It must be something she really loves or is afraid to loose. Will the injury affect her sense of balance? I hope not.

  5. By way of an fyi – Back in February, I went to the state legislative district 28 office hours at the Martha Cooper library. The check-in table was run by Daniel Hernandez (yes, *that* Daniel Hernandez) and his sister.

After the event, I spoke with Daniel outside the library. I mentioned the idea of a giant welcome home party for Gabby. His reaction? “Agreed!”

So, we have Daniel Hernandez in our corner on this one. Anyone know if he still works in Giffords’ Tucson congressional office?

  6. As stated on her government site, Giffords will be assisted by a 24-hour home health provider upon her release from the hospital. She will be relocating to her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly’s home in League City, Texas      http://bit.ly/lxbgd5
