Here is the email I just received from The Public Information Officer for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. McKisson,

Thank you for the e-mail.  I checked the radio logs from 0700 to 1100
hours on Saturday and there doesn’t appear to be a report of what you
describe.  Normally, the procedure for this type of incident is that a
call is made (hopefully at the time of the occurrence) and deputies
would respond.  In this case, a call may have resulted in a deputy
actually finding the suspect vehicle.  Unfortunately, without a license
plate, it would be very difficult to follow-up.  Is there any additional
information that could help law enforcement?  Please advise.  Thank you.

I also spoke with Josh Lane who was riding with the regular Shootout group and saw the same vehicle yelling through the window at the leaders of that pack. Evidently he got into it with them and continued south on Misson until he encountered the early riders.

An altercation between the driver of a Honda Ridgeline and riders on the “Old-Man Shootout,” could have turned ugly this morning.

Approximately fifteen to twenty  miles into the ride on Mission Road, the driver of the Ridgeline began speeding up the left side of the pack and nearly hitting riders with his mirror.

Each time he found a gap in the pack, which had begun breaking up, he would cut off the riders.

I was in the front of the group chasing a three-person break and experienced first hand how close the driver was coming to the cyclists.

Eventually he cut off the three breakaway riders and rather than keep going, he stopped in the middle of the road and got out of his truck to shout at the peloton.

As we passed he shouted, “You don’t own the road.”

The pack had to swing into the opposite lane of traffic to avoid him and his truck.

I heard some riders reciting his license number. If you got his number or know someone who did, would you please contact me. Did anyone forward the plate to the Pima County Sheriff’s department? I would like to follow up with them to see what process they follow when a complaint it filed in such a situation.

  1. Any updates?

I told one of my riding buddies about this. He responded that he too had been harassed by a Ridgeline on Mission.
