Three weeks have passed since Brendan Lyons and his girlfriend Lorena Evans were struck by a car on Sunrise Road.

In that time he has been speaking out to make cycling safer. In that time his friends have been trying to raise money to help he and Evans.

First try organized a silent auction and benefit. There is also an online donation page to help contribute. So far people have contributed over $1,000.

Lyons, who is still was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation center has been humbled by the community’s response.

“It just sounds weird asking for help when I am the one always helping others,” The 29-year-old firefighter said. “I just love giving back to my community and being on the receiving end is hard to swallow even though it may actually be helpful.”
