Celebrate the streetcar launch by riding your bike.
At least, that’s what Bike Party Tucson organizer Kylie Walzak is proposing for Saturday night.
“I wanted to do something with bikes that celebrated the streetcar,” Walzak said.
Walzak said the rolling party will roll down the center of University Boulevard and Fourth Avenue into downtown and eventually to the Mercado.
“We are not going to to avoid the tracks,” She said. “Bikes are here, we are not going away.”
Walzak said she got the idea from bike parties in Nashville and Baltimore. The idea is a rolling party with music and a theme.
The theme for Tucson’s bike party is the beach and one of the stops will be a man-made beach in downtown Tucson.
After that the bike party will head to the Cushing Street bridge for karaoke and then to the Mercado San Augustin for live music.
The ride begins at the flagpole on the University of Arizona campus. Gather at 6:30 and roll by 7 p.m.
Walzak hinted that there may be more bike parties in Tucson’s future and is a compliment to the Tuesday Night Bike Ride.
“In a town with as a vibrant bike community as Tucson, you can never have too many bike events,” Walzak said.
Riders are encouraged to dress up for the beach theme and bring lots of blinky lights.
