A local mountain biker is hoping the mountain bike community will help support Tucson teachers.

Carlos Resto started “Ride for a Teacher” as a way to collect school supplies for teachers in the community.

He is asking for at least $5 in donated school supplies to participate in the ride which will take place Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead. The ride will leave at 6:30 a.m. and head south along the Arizona Trail.

Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists will be at the event and will provide cold beverages following the ride.

Here’s the list of supplies Resto says the teachers need:

1 inch 3 ring binders
