In the weekend open thread you can suggest story ideas, talk about what happened in the news last week, rail against drivers, anything.

  1. How did you use your bike this weekend?

I am almost out the door for an orientation at my day job, which affords me a 4.5 mile commute down Mountain Avenue.

  2. Hey Mike, thanks for the article on the hills ride up Sabino Canyon. I hadn’t been up there in a long time – beautiful ride. That last 3/4 mile is a booger – ouch! Fun coming down though.

Went this morning with my wife for a ride out to Tucson Mtn Park. Gonna be a regular training ride for El Tour, but the construction at Misson/22nd might mean a detour for next few weeks (months?).

  3. Be careful around Mountain. TPD is really stepping up the patroling in that area.
Just returned from an early morning group ride and TPD stopped us at a light because someone got a bit too close to the white line. He quickly quized us on the laws pertaining to cyclists and cut off our responses to yell at us that we have to use and stay in the bike lane . No where in ARS 28-815 does it say that. It was a little insulting and felt like harrassment more than anything. We did laugh it off afterwards.
Just a word of caution….stay away from the white line. Hope everyone is having nice rides this weekend! 🙂

  4. Thanks for the info. I went though at 8:15 and again at noon and they weren’t there.

It is a regular route, though, so I’ll be on the lookout for them.

    Something TPD’s Skeenes about?

  6. Thanks Tucson Velo. The incident happended around 6am. I saw a few TPD driving in the area when I was coming down Mountain to meet my group around 5am. Figured the heightened activity was do to the recent crackdowns on no light cyclists. Hopefully its just a fluke thing that happened to us. The whole thing was weird and really confused our group. We left trying to figure out what just happened and eventually laughed it off. 🙂

  7. Cruised through the upper-crust neighborhoods off Tanque Verde near the country club. My goal is to tour every hood in town and I’m well on my way.

  8. Just wanted to praise you, by the way, for the “Map Collaboration.” That’s a great service. Any chance you’ll be doing other Google maps? Maybe featuring some more bike-related landmarks (Bicas, the church, and so on), or shops, bike facilities, killer routes, etc.? In any case, it’s a cool thing you’ve done.

  9. It is probably about time I post about it again to get more people involved.

The landmarks map would be pretty cool. I’ll start that one when I get a few minutes.
