The UA Criterium is this weekend, a month later than it has traditionally been held.

According to UA Cycling team member Chloe Forsman the race was moved from January because the date conflicted with a UA basketball game and it became clear that closing streets and parking lots near the basketball arena wasn’t going to work.

Forsman said she hoped they would have a similar number of racers as they did last year, but wondered if the rodeo weekend might have an effect on participation.

In addition to the date change, University Medical Center was brought on as a presenting sponsor, which allowed the race organizers to offer a bigger cash purse for racers, $3,300 total.

The UA cycling club is also organizing a cruiser ride around the criterium course that is not competitive and will raise money for the Tucson Tragedy Victims Fund. The cruiser ride starts at 11:50 a.m. and lasts 10 minutes. A $10 donation is suggested for the cruiser ride.
