University of Arizona student Ghazal Ghazi purchased her red bike from BICAS last week because she didn’t want to drive anymore.

“I’m just one person,” Ghazi says. “I don’t like driving around an empty car.”

She says she and the bike are still bonding, but so far they are getting along just fine.

She picked it out because it was red, which represents “strawberries, love and Marxism.”

Ghazi added a sticker of Martin Luther King Jr., which is important to her because he was such an influential social activist, something the Gender and Women’s Studies major relates to. She practices her own activism on issues of violence and oppression.

Ghazi moved here three years ago from St. Louis to attend the University of Arizona. She says Tucson is a great place to bike and people seem to be pretty supportive.

  1. So disappointed in this post Tucson Velo! All the cyclists in Tucson and you have to pick a Marxist?!?!?

It’s a little-known fact that Red Star is allergic (1) to strawberries. But it’s no excuse: you should have checked with Red Star before making the post. That way you would be fair and balanced.
