A cyclist was struck at 5th Street and Tucson Boulevard this evening at 5:18 p.m.

According to a Tucson Police Department spokesperson, the adult female cyclist received minor injuries that did not require transportation to the hospital.

The driver who struck the cyclist fled the scene heading westbound on 5th Street.

According to TPD, the male motorists was driving a dark blue or black four-door sedan.

Thanks to @bikecolli for the automated tweet that alerted me to the crash.

  1. There’s no excuse for a hit-and-run.

But, I wonder what the cyclist was doing riding in that intersection during rush hour. That is something I avoid.

  2. The cyclist was probably just riding home from work or school. Tucson Blvd has reasonable bike shoulders (4ft I think) and 5th St is a residential street (6th St is the arterial).

  3. There’s no excuse for hitting a cyclist (or anyone) that is legally using a public roadway.

    No ‘but’ needed.
