Ordinary Bike Shop's owner David Tang, right, works on a bike at the 2010 Bike-to-Work Celebration. In addition to getting exercise, saving money and relieving stress, bike commuters will get a few extra perks starting Monday.

Editor’s note: Since the original publication of this guide, the Bike Fest officials updated their site with several new businesses participating in Bike-to-Work Week. Check them out.

The 2011 Bike-to-Work week starts on Monday, April 4 and culminates in the Bike-to-Work celebration at Maynard’s Market on Friday, April 8 from 7-9 a.m. There will be free breakfast, live music and the presentation of the Tucson-Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee’s advocate and commuters of the year at the celebration.

I’ve broken down the businesses by the day and time that they are offering freebies and discounts. Find out what each business is giving away and where they are located, then scroll down to get a day-by-day schedule.

Be sure to check the Bike Fest website for updates and other events including several rides throughout the week. Also check out the photos from last year’s Bike-to-Work Week.

  1. Also, is Sun Rideshare doing its thing this year? Register your commutes and be entered in a drawing? I won an awesome book (Pedaling Revolution) last year. Granted, I had already read it, but it was nice to give it away to another bikey person to enjoy!

  2. So right after I posted the above comment, I received this by email:
“Don’t forget about the City of Tucson’s Bicycle Commuter Challenge, which runs April 1 to April 30. You just need 20 one way bike trips to work to qualify for the grand prize of a new bicycle. Other prizes include $25 gift cards from Bookman’s, Brooklyn Pizza, Cereal Box, and Zoom Juice. Go to the Commute Calendar at http://www.884ride.org/ridepro to participate.”

  3. Yeah, if I rode to work, it would really mess up the carpet.

Then again, working from home does have its advantages. I have yet to catch my computers playing office politics with the furniture. And there’s zero commute time.

  4. Martha, you totally got my joke! I work at home too. Seriously, there’s no way I can ride my bike out the bedroom door and make the tight turn into the office! It’s pedestrian only for me, I’m afraid. : )

  5. That’s right! The wifey, the dog, and I are heading out to the office supply store right now via pedal power.
