Crews have finished paving Cactus Forest Loop Drive in Saguro National Park East. As of Saturday, the loop was repaved, but some parts still had loose gravel.

The repaving was halted when a test patch of pavement proved to be too rough for bicycle riding. Saguaro National Park officials worked with construction crews to produce a surface suitable for riding.

The new pavement is smooth and should only get better as cars pack it down.

Have you ridden the loop recently? What do you think?

  1. Seemed like it was pretty good by most
standards..a few cracks here and there.
Don't know why they didn't just seal the
asphalt to make it last longer.
This new surface looks coarser in the pic,
    but haven't ridden it yet.

  2. I think part of it doing it was that it was TIGER money so it was a use it or lose it kind of thing.

There were some cracks and such, but it as certainly smooth enough to ride on.

  3. It looks rough, but it really wasn't and once the cars drive all over it, it will be even smoother.
