Editor’s note: 14 -year-old Max Cronyn is competing at the USA Cycling Junior Nationals in Bend, Ore. this weekend. He’ll be racing in a time trial, criterium and road race. I’ve asked him to answer several questions each day, but if you want to know something, I’ll forward your question to him.

Up next:

Tomorrow is the first race of the USA Cycling Junior National Championships. It is an out-and-back time trial that I am really excited about. The route is 24 kilometers uphill on the way out and down on the way back. Last year, the best times were around 35 minutes. There are about 70 other riders in my age bracket. I start at 10:49:30.

On my mind:

I am really excited for the time trial. It is my best event and this year my bike is more legit. Last year I was on my old steel bike with clip on aero bars. This year I have an actual time trial-bike, shoe covers and a skin suit.

Although I don’t think I got any stronger at the camp, I am a lot more confident on the bike. I haven’t gotten to ride the route this year, but I rode it several times last year and I like it a lot.

Pre-race meal:

For dinner I had toasted cheese sandwiches with brie, pepperoni and something green that my mom made. It was much better than the food at the camp. I’ll probably have a bowl of Rice Crispies with Cheerios and some yogurt before the race.
